Check out the league positions on the results page - more recurve archers needed for the team and keep up the good work everyone, it could be a good year for us (just don't get tired!)

What has the weather done for us so far? Tony Taylor charts the meteoric rise of Tom taylor - our favourite junior compound hero as he negotiates the highs and lows of being a GB squadee (if that's the word - if not it sounds OK so I'll keeep it in!). just click to download the full article - Well done Tom.

Our second league shoot saw Laura Kendrick (recurve) topping the girls under 16 Junior Western with an excellent score of 710 and the top lady compund for the month shooting the Long Western was Gillian Bartram with a score of 738 with, no, it can't be, but it is.... Mr Mick Kelly as the top gents compound with a score of 720

The years first league shoot saw Ben Cousins (recurve) as top scorer shooting the boys short junior western with an excellent score of 681. Ross Watson (recurve) also topped the scoring with an excellent 683 shooting the boys under 18 Western and Paul Hagan was yet another top scorer in the gents Compound - Long Western with 784.

Please support all league shoots if you can, we need two full teams for the recurve section, so everyone has a chance to perform and be part of the team (as long as your score is high enough!)

Tom Taylor got a letter inviting him to join the GB compound squad for all of their 2010 training sessions. There are 7 sessions in all, starting in January, and 2 international matches booked for the summer if he makes the final selection. "He's chuffed to bits" says his dad, Tony Taylor

Tom Taylor has a new national record for the Stafford round of 683, well done Tom, we knew you could do it! PS This is to go with his impressive 299 (out of a possible 300) earlier this month to take the EMAS and Derbyshire Worcester record!

Tom Taylor strikes again...
Redditch; a cold and dark sports hall full of people with strange accents. An array of targets 30 metres away. Whistles blow, weapons are steadied, nerves are jangled and the hall is hushed.
Bang! Thud! Crump! Arrows hit their mark. Occasional shrieks (You've pinged my nock, you rotter!) This is a high-casualty event - 4 archers sharing a single face; nocks, fletchings and whole arrows are sacrificed.
The day progresses.
A leader board displays current scores ( thery couldn'd afford raisins or sultanas) in glorious monochrome chalk on black.
Ooh err - can this be right? Tom is leading the lot - even the adults are beginning to say "oo's this, then?"
The scorers and organisers look to their record sheets - the Stafford Junior has stood at 669 since 2002, but Tom is on 568 with a dozen to go. Better find a claim form, quick!
The final end - he only has to score 15 with three arrows to equal the record. A lot of people are watching, willing him to succeed. Among them are Andy Rikunenko and Eric Thomas (both GB compound members)nodding approvingly.
Tom ended up with 683, beating the old record by a clear 14 points. Lots of encouragement and applause when it's all announced.
One happy young man and, (of course) proud parents! Tom is pleased because he's beginning to be taken seriously at touranments outside his home region.
The following day we got a lovely e-mail from Barry Healey, the GB compound team manager, inviting Tom to the qualifying shoot next spring for the International Youth Games event. This is an amzing opportunity - the team is selected from the best archers on the quaifying day, so fingers are crossed.
Final instalment; The Junior National Indoors competition, Lilleshall. Sunday 6th Dec, 2009.
As always, this was a tense and long day. We had to be there early as Tom was the England reserve for the Home Nations Match. He wasn't needed, so we stayed until the afternoon session when he was booked for shooting.
Scores in his category were neck-and-neck for the first dozen and only separated out at 3 dozen. Eventually he came 4th with a score of 578. The winner got 582, 2nd place was 580 and 3rd scored 579 so it was an extremely tight round. What was incredibly satisfying was that the under-16 lads beat the under-18s into a cocked hat. The U-18s highest score was 573 and that would have come 7th in the under-16 section. The sheer talent of these young men is astounding - potential world-beaters in the making. At last, someone is beginning to take an interest in them, suggesting a youth compound squad in the near future.

LNER 50/50 This fun, sunny and unique tournament saw archers from Pastures do well again with Tony Dolby winning the Gents Recurve with a score of 854, Tom Taylor winning the Junior Compound (at the full distance with a score of 888 which beat the Gents Compound winning score - well done!!) and Sue Margett won the Ladies Longbow. One of our new members, Gillian Bartram came 2nd in the Ladies Compound and one of our older members (!) Pete Margett came a respectable 3rd in the Gents Longbow. Ross Watson achieved a very creditable third place in the Junior Recurve competition - well done! Pastures also walked away with the Team trophy, consisting of Tom Taylor, Tony Dolby and Mike Emery.

Lincoln FITA star, Washingborough 8am Sunday 28th June.
Blazing hot - and we'd had to get up at 5am!
Really sizzling start to the shooting, and record prospects in sight....Tom finished on 1370 - he's got the record again!!
But....
Lilleshall National Fita and Bristols was last week-end
Tom was in the England squad (they won) and came 4th in the Saturday Metric event (the winner was nowhere near Tom's record). Conditions were blustery and rainy at times , so no really high scores.
Sunday was the National champs - Tom got the silver medal (8 below his PB, which would have got Gold, never mind). At the presentations there was a major surprise, though - the EMAS junior compound team got the trophy and Gold Medals!! The team was Tom (Derbyshire/Pastures) with 1280 points, Marsie Henderson-Hirst (Derbyshire/Derwent) on 1274 and Alexandria Davies (LRCAA/ Rutland) on 1260.
